Step 1: Update iOS and confirm what you actually get

Update the iPhone first: Settings → General → Software Update. CarPlay features ride entirely on the phone's iOS version — nothing updates on the car side. Once you are on the latest build, the video story depends on two things you can check in a minute.

• Your iOS version. On any iOS 26.x build, there is no video toggle to find. On iOS 27, an AirPlay-to-car option can appear — but only if your car also supports it.

When iOS 27 video does arrive for you, it will come the same way CarPlay Ultra did: brand by brand, on the carmaker's schedule. As of this writing, no automaker has publicly committed to turning it on, and older cars are unlikely to get it — enabling video is a head-unit firmware decision, and there is little incentive to make it for vehicles already sold.
