Method 1: Turn on lyrics in Apple Music
Apple Music is the one app that shows synced lyrics on CarPlay with nothing extra installed. If you already pay for it, this is the fastest route.
- Start a song in Apple Music on the CarPlay screen.
- Tap the Now Playing bar to open the full-screen player.
- Tap the lyrics icon — the little speech-bubble with quotation marks, bottom-left.
- Time-coded lines scroll with the current line highlighted, as long as the track has synced lyrics.

Here's the catch most people hit: Spotify, YouTube Music, Tidal and Amazon Music all have lyrics in their own apps, but none of them draw synced lyrics on the CarPlay screen. Spotify only shows static lyrics, and only on your iPhone — not in the car. To get scrolling lines with these apps you need a separate lyrics app.
- Free, on the phone:open Spotify on your iPhone, tap a song, and swipe up to the Lyrics panel. You can read along while parked, but it stays on the phone — it never reaches the car display.

Why lyrics aren't showing on CarPlay
If you set one of these up and still see nothing, run through the usual suspects.
- You're not on iOS 26.The CarPlay widget stack — and the lyrics widget with it — arrived in iOS 26. Native Apple Music lyrics work earlier, but the widget path doesn't.
- Live Activities is off.Turn on Settings → Music → the Lyrics Live Activity so the active line can update while you drive.

- The track has no time-codes.Some songs only have plain text or none at all, so there's nothing to sync.
