The 30-second test
Before you open any menus, find out which half is broken. With the phone offCarPlay, say “Hey Siri, what time is it?” or hold the side button.
- Siri answers → the voice trigger is fine. Your CarPlay block is a Screen Time restriction or a stale pairing. Skip to Step 2.
- Siri does nothing → the trigger itself is off or held down. Start at Step 1.
Step 1: Turn Siri on

Siri is on but still not working in CarPlay

- Turn off any active VPN. Siri requests time out through some VPN tunnels, and the car is where you notice it first.
- Check the car's microphone. If a phone call sounds muffled to the other side, the cabin mic is the fault, not Siri.
- Check for an iOS update. Open Settings → General → Software Update and install anything pending. A bug that a newer build already fixed is a real suspect. Rule it out before you blame the car or the mic.
