Method 1: Use Android Auto, the Android equivalent of CarPlay

If you carry an Android phone, Android Auto is your CarPlay. Google built it to do the same job: show Maps, music, and messages on the car screen, with voice control through Google Assistant. It is free, and most cars that support CarPlay support Android Auto too.

1. Check your car supports Android Auto — look for its logo in the manual or on the USB port.
2. Update the Android Auto app from the Play Store (built in on Android 10 and newer).
3. Plug your phone into the data USB port with a good cable, then tap Allow.
4. For wireless Android Auto, pair over Bluetooth once — supported on most 2019-and-newer cars.

Method 2: Run CarPlay on an Android head unit with an AI box

Many aftermarket car screens run Android as their operating system. If you own one of those and an iPhone, you can run real Apple CarPlay on it with a wireless AI box. The box plugs into the head unit's USB or CarPlay input and hands your iPhone a proper CarPlay session.

1. Confirm your head unit lists CarPlay or Android Auto support in its settings.

This is the reverse job. You already have CarPlay in the car, but you want Android apps — YouTube, Netflix, a browser — on that screen. A “CarPlay AI box” runs a full copy of Android and feeds it into your CarPlay input, so the car screen becomes an Android tablet.

Method 4: Turn a mounted iPhone into a CarPlay screen

If the CarPlay side of your household is an iPhone, the phone itself is the cheapest screen. Mount it and run a dashboard app, and you get a CarPlay-style display with no box at all. 2. Restart both devices: turn the car fully off and back on, and restart the phone.
3. Re-pair from scratch: delete the car from the phone's Bluetooth, then set it up again.
